The founders incorporated UTTC in November 1995 to acquire a state-of-the-art assembly plant in Cornwall, Ontario ("Cornwall Facility") from Canadian Marconi. The founders saw the opportunity to create an EMS company built on an unparalleled commitment to quality, on-time delivery and flexibility. They recognized that their extensive experience in leading edge technology and manufacturing would serve as the foundation for a thriving, high growth company. In 1988, Canadian Marconi started the Cornwall Facility to fulfill the urgent requirement to retrofit line-of-sight military communications equipment for the US Army. The Cornwall Facility then began providing Electronic Manufacturing Services to IBM (now Celestica) in 1992. Most of the employees were trained to the US military MIL-STD-2000 standard (which is substantially more rigorous than commercial standards) to fulfill the contracts. During the early nineties, the facility serviced both very high volume point of sales electronics and low volume avionic and military products. Since 1995, UTTC acquired the assets from Marconi and in six "short" years, turned the facility into one of the leading private EMS providers.
